I'm Courtney Filer-Dougal, the designer and metalsmith behind My Sunset Road. My wish is to create unique, modern jewelry that transcends current trends and feels handmade for you alone. My two passions are my family and my art and I'm fortunate enough to fully enjoy the best of both of these worlds - I homeschool my two young children while making my creative ideas come alive in metal in my home studio. Each piece is designed and created by me and because of this truly handmade process every piece differs slightly with its own variations in texture and form. My work is inspired by many things: a line drawing, a trip to the science museum, sometimes a suggestion from my mother (!!), but most recently I've been influenced by the jewelry of ancient, non-Western cultures. Personal adornment is a major art and has played an important role in expressing the religious, social or financial status of those that have worn it for centuries. I felt a personal connection to the images of the ancient jewelry I came across and fell in love with the idea of conjuring up these worlds which cease to exist by reinterpreting them for modern day wear.
I am committed to being a socially responsible and eco-friendly business. I purchase 100% recycled metal whenever possible and all pieces are made with a minimum of 75% recycled metal. I also reuse and recycle all of my scrap metal and ship your items in 100% recycled gift boxes and mailers.
I truly love what I do and hope that will comes across to each of my customers in the quality of my work as well as in my customer service. My Sunset Road strives to bring you beautiful pieces that are sure to become your everyday favorites.
